Seminar: She Negotiates: How to Best Position Yourself to Negotiate To Your Benefit
Negotiation is at the heart of every deal that occurs in construction—and business. However, women often feel they are not the strongest negotiators. This interactive workshop is designed to equip the attendees with the core negotiation skills required to manage and take control of a negotiation. We negotiate every day—this session will aim to help attendees formalize a plan and to put this plan into action in those negotiations. Topics include: how women negotiate; how they can better negotiate with other genders; how women are perceived; how women can use those perceptions in a negotiation; how to use skills that women possess to effect the best results in your negotiations.

Speaker: Brenda K. Radmacher, Partner | Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman LLP

Seminar: Establishing the Business Case for Women in Design
Women are essential to strong and enduring AEC design professions. However, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions, and there is significant attrition from these professions at critical times in their careers. This seminar will begin by showing data on trends of women in architectural and engineering schools, in practice, and in leadership positions. We will then identify root causes of what can hold women back from becoming leaders in a firm, or leave their profession altogether. Additionally, we will explore the significant business case for integrating women in leadership positions, through the financial and cultural impacts firms stand to gain by supporting equity and diversity. We will define actionable items a firm can implement to retain women and raise them into leadership positions. Through Q&A/group discussion, we will explore personal experiences with attaining leadership roles, overcoming barriers, and views on the importance of women in a thriving AEC industry.

Speaker: Amy L. Kalar, RSP Architects
